Quality
Objectives
The Quality
Objectives are the practical outline of the quality policy. They are
an expression to aim for meeting certain requirements like zero
defects for a certain product or a response time below a specified
limit for a certain service. It is important that a Quality
Objectives are measurable. In ISO 9000:2000, the definition of
Quality Objectives is: “Something sought, or aimed for, related to
quality." Quality Objectives can apply to specific functions of an
organization.
Explicitly
setting Quality Objectives allow programmers to know which Quality
Objectives exist and those that they will be expected to follow.
Programmers will work towards the objectives given them if they are
clearly specified.
A study by
Gerald Weinberg and Edward Schulman investigated the effect on
programmer performance of setting Quality Objectives. Five teams of
programmers were given five versions of a program and each was
expected to maximize a different Quality Objectives Four of the five
teams successfully maximized the objective they were given. None of
the teams did consistently well in all Quality Objectives.
For example,
software Quality Objectives are:
- To strive for
the up gradation of the technology to meet customer requirements
in ever changing market.
- To upgrade
the technology knowledge of all STPI personnel through continuous
improvement training
- To provide
state-of-art data communication services as per acceptable
international standards.
- To provide
comprehensive service including project approvals, import
attestation, software export certification etc., in a time bound
manner
- Achieving
customer satisfaction through the combined efforts of planning the
infrastructure and executing the projects through dedicated
workforce.
