Certification
What is ISO
9000 Certification? What anyone have to do with quality? The answer
is simple-quality is needed everywhere, from high-tech manufacturing
to pancakes. In fact, quality management is vital to the production
of just about any goods, services, or information products you can
imagine.
Many sites are
all about quality-how to achieve it, how to measure it, how to
maintain it. In it, you'll explore all aspects of quality, from
quality of goods and services to the processes that are necessary to
achieve quality. Including many for ISO 9000 Certification
procedures and how to get it Plus, ISO 9000 Survival Sites will show
you quality management in action. Basically, ISO 9000 Certification
is a generic system that specifies, in very broad terms, the
necessary components of a quality management system. Rather than
being specific to any one industry, it details the basic
requirements of the quality function for all industries.
ISO 9000
Certification was originally published in 1987 by the International
Organization for Standardization, a worldwide federation of national
standards bodies, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The organization was founded in 1946 to
develop a common set of standards for manufacturing, trade and
communications. Today more than 90 countries are members, each with
a representative. The representative for the
United
States is the American National Standards
Institute (ANSI).
The concept of
ISO 9000 Certification was developed in part because of the European
push toward a fully integrated common market. It was recognized that
for the common market to exist, there would have to be assurance of
quality across borders. The European Economic
Community, (now the
European Union, or EU), adopted ISO 9000 Certification as the basic
minimal quality management system for selling certain products
(electronic components and construction equipment) within the
European Union.
On account of
the usefulness of such a concept, it very quickly took off. Today
more than 80 countries have adopted ISO 9000 Certification along
with other quality measures and certifications as the standard for
assuring consistent quality. Clearly it has blossomed into much more
than its originally intended purpose. Literally there is mushroom
growth of many quality consultants and mediators, which not only
help you in implementing these quality standards at your facility
but also help you in ISO 9000 Certification or other standards.
